Craigslist from a New Perspective

I sold something on Craigslist for the first time! The people came all the way from Frisco to pick up our guest room box springs, mattress, and old bed frame. I got about 15 text messages, 5 voicemails, and 900 emails from interested people. Being the novice that I was, it was a little overwhelming and obnoxious to be bombarded, but once the guest room/pre-nursery was cleared out and I held that cash in my grimy little hand, I was DEVOTED to Craig. All in all, this was the easiest way to get rid of junk ever, and I'm definitely putting our desk on there this weekend! I may even do it today! Both woo and hoo!

Jenny Lind

There's a lot of intense pink in this nursery from Summer's Last Stand, including that sassy Jenny Lind in the corner. I really like Jenny Lind cribs. I think they're old-fashioned and delicate and sweet. With the aqua walls, I like how bright and girlie it is. (Jury's still out on the pink shag though. I'm just sayin.)

I Like White Pumpkins!

Opinion Poll

The zebra rug was in Lu's room, the former guest room now pre-nursery, but it's not meshing with my vision for Bradly's room. (Plus, Lu had secretly scratched and frayed the edge that was hidden under the bed so that it can longer float in the middle of a room or it would look pretty shabby. Now, Lu's fun-time edge needs to be tucked under another bed or couch or something.)

Sooo, what do you think of the rug here, layered over the seagrass? Is it too much? I think I like it, but I'm looking for honesty. It could easily go in our bedroom, too.

For reference, here's a no zebra rug shot from a long time ago.

And one other no rug shot... Oh, look, there's W. How'd he get in there?

But, seriously, what do you think?

Oh, This, Too

I got the hardware for the changing table yesterday in the mail. The holes need to be drilled and enlarged, so I haven't gotten around to attaching them yet. Some people think they look old-ladyish, but I think they look like earrings.

3 Best

1. This kitchen, but the pendants and ceiling in particular, from Pink Wallpaper

2. Dulce de leche brownies from David Lebovitz

3. Recovering from shots, numbness, and the horror of the black jaw jack that held my mouth open at the dentist's office . I hate you, black jaw jack. But I hate you, shots, more. Stopping by the bakery afterward and promptly rewarding myself with one cherry and one apple turnover drowning in shiny glaze made it all go away. Cheers to sugar!

Emily Henderson

Emily Henderson was the only competitor on HGTV's Design Star that I could have possibly imagined watching on an actual show. I thought she did a really great job and that her show, Secrets From a Stylist, would totally fill a Domino/Lonny niche in HGTV's viewing audience.

Apartment Therapy has a feature on the house she shares with husband, Brian, here if you want to see more pictures like the ones above.

Plus I like the (reborn Thom Felicia Dress My Nest) concept of using a person's wardrobe to shape their home design. At least, I think that's where she's going with it. Regardless, those twenty and thirty-something gals are going to love her, and from what I can tell even the roughest of bloggers (watch out for language on that link) already have her back.

She has such cool, vintage, eclectic, casual, organic, industrial, unique sense of design. (Enough adjectives?) I love her! There's nothing boring or matchy matchy or themed in her spaces, unlike some other HGTV shows. I think she's perfect for the network. In my mind, she could be a younger, more affordable version of Sarah Richardson.

HGTV also has a sneak preview of the makeover she does for Glee co-creator, Ian Brennan. She does well mixing it up in his living room. I love the bold portrait over the fireplace, the straight sofa, and the metallic coffee table... not to mention the antlers and library ladder in the background.

This is the cutest and coziest guest bedroom nook...

What an efficient and masculine office-turned-den. I'll be keeping my eye on her.

3 Best (and Worst)

1. Hearing our baby's burly heartbeat yesterday at our midwife appointment. If it was a "wooshwooshwoosh" last time, it was "BoomBoomBoom" this time. Go Wee Woo. He/she should be about 5" from head to rump by now. That's big time. And we get our sonogram (AND TO FIND OUT THE SEX) at our next appointment.

2. Mudpuppy's hanging air plants in his Etsy shop (Found via Inspired to Share)

The Lovely Leaves wallpaper from Hygge & West is pretty amazing. (Found via Inspired to Share)

P.S. My 3 Worst

1. Dropping off our computer at the Apple store to see what irreparable problems lurk in its guts
2. Calling our insurance company to sort out some dental coverage junk
3. The thought of my upcoming dentist appointment after five years (!) of not having my teeth cleaned

Heavier matelasse (Did I misspell that?)

Small print weave

Trellis-y

Reading Eudora Welty's Biography

Eudora's mother said, "But sometimes we less articulate folks, who can neither paint pictures nor write poems, yet feel the need of expressing ourselves, find a garden a very happy medium." Indeed.

All images from the suziebeezie archives. I'm obsessed.

Nursery Fabrics?

I saw these at Joanne's the other day. I like the blues, aquas, and grays, and I'm seriously considering the stripe for when we reupholster our chair and ottoman for the nursery. I obviously wouldn't integrate the floral pattern if it's a boy. I also think polka dots are really cute for babies, too... maybe for sheets for something.

Oh, Martha...

The woman (and her staff) know how to arrange a drawer. To me, it is beautiful.

3 Best

1. This exact muted color of gray blue aqua for the nursery. Regardless of the sex. What do you think? If it's a girl, could I spin it to read feminine? (Image via Griege)

What if I used a hand-painted cherry blossom pillow? Of course, if it's a boy, there's no need for blossoms, cherry or otherwise.

2. The thought that it could be just like this: Mother and daughter strolling and cooking.

3. I went to a birthday party on Saturday night. One of the guests told me a story about a recent wedding several of my friends had attended. You must know that, by and large, this is not a wild crowd, but e'ry once in awhile a few of them go buck wild (or get jiggy with it as the saying goes). And, without divulging too many incriminating details, this wedding sounds like it was one of those times...

Friend told me that a few days after the fun of the wedding, she saw someone limbo-ing (on TV?), and she realized with mild horror that she had limbo-ed that night and gracefully fallen to the ground in the process, a memory she had somehow (?) forgotten until that moment. She asked a couple other wedding attendees about it, and they promptly told her there was no limbo-ing at the reception, that she was crazy, but she knew. She knew.

Weeks pass. She found a photo on Facebook of the reception with limbo-ing in progress, and her own woo hoo-ing, high fiving image waiting to be next in line. Proof!

This is how it went down:

"You know what we need to do right now?"

"What? Have another Long Island Iced Tea?"

"No, fool! Limbo!"

"But how? We have no pole."

"Umm... Here's my tie!"

"Let's do it! Gather all the participants who want to get jiggy."

"Me! Me! I want to get jiggy! I'm raising my hand/high-fiving/raising the roof to show my excitement and willingness! Surely I won't fall down on my first turn..."

I didn't even ask anyone's permission to tell this story or include this picture.
